Sun Sun Hot Hot Hot
Sunny Sunny – it’s all about the S
Today is family social distance day in the garden for my mums birthday. She misses you all too. But how hard not to give her a hug and kiss. xxxx
It was lovely to see a few of you this week whilst out delivering sewing and masks.
The weather has been very strange this month but the last few days have been hot – hot – hot.
Social Distancing – now what does that mean?
In public health, social distancing, also called physical distancing, is a set of non-pharmaceutical interventions or measures intended to prevent the spread of a contagious disease by maintaining a physical distance between people and reducing the number of times people come into close contact with each other.
Some people just don’t get it do they.
Stay Safe – what does that mean?
Save Lives – keep you distance please.
Sunshine = Vitamin D
Vitamin D is sometimes called the “sunshine vitamin” because it’s produced in your skin in response to sunlight. It’s a fat-soluble vitamin in a family of compounds that includes vitamins D-1, D-2, and D-3.
The Sun Is Your Best Source of Vitamin D
When your skin is exposed to sunlight, it makes vitamin D from cholesterol. The sun’s ultraviolet B (UVB) rays hit cholesterol in the skin cells, providing the energy for vitamin D synthesis to occur. Vitamin D has many roles in the body and is essential for optimal health
Foods offering vitamin D, such as salmon, tuna, egg yolks or fortified foods like milk and non-dairy beverages such as soymilk, almond milk and orange juice are all high in Vitamin D. Mushrooms are also high in this vitamin.
Sandwiches, Sausages, Sweets, Spices, Steak, Salmon, Salad, Salt
Now let’s think…what is your best sandwich filler?
For me it’s egg & cress on granary bread every time or just plain ham. What about you?
Sausages: I love sausage & mash and toad in the hole.
Steak, now there’s rump, fillet, rib eye, sirloin but there is also gammon and tuna.
Sweets: rhubarb and custard has to be one of my all time favs but good old mints come a close second. To be honest I am not a boiled sweet lover but if we are talking sweets as in puddings well that’s a different story. Q: is chocolate a sweet.
Spices: I could not be without my spice rack. There are so many spices to choose from and should be used to enhance flavour not overpower the meal.
Salad for some people the word salad just mean a bowl of green leaves. What about greek salad, nicoise salad, waldorf salad, mexican black bean salad and tabbouleh (Nawal) to name a few. Think outside the box salad does not have to be green!
Salt to sprinkle to add? Eating too much salt may raise your blood pressure, and having high blood pressure increases your risk of developing coronary heart disease. So to keep your heart healthy it’s important that you don’t eat too much salt each day. As we’re all spending more time at home, it can be challenging to stick to a healthy diet. Adults should eat no more than 6g of salt a day (2.4g sodium) – that’s around 1 teaspoon. Remember many foods already contain salt before you grab the salt pot to add more!
So where do we go from here?
Pubs open, hairdressers open, gyms open – Is Julie ready to open?
