Mercury Pantomime

Sharing is caring!

Hello Everyone

I would like to welcome the new members that joined us at Move 2 Lose this week. It has been lovely to see full classes. Please remember to book a place in the class if you can especially Wednesday and Friday morning aerobic classes at Shrub End Hall.

Tea Towels = Zoom

As we are unable to use scarfs in class I thought it would be fun this week to work with T Towels at home, it’s amazing how much we can cover in the hour class on Zoom with 30 mins being aerobics followed by 30 mins stretching.

Zoom classes are on Wednesday at 5pm and Thursday morning at 10am.

Contact Julie for signing in details and payment.

Pantomime – Mercury Theatre History

Today I’m off to the Pantomime at the Mercury “OH yes I am” do you feel like we live in a pantomime at the moment? I am quite excited as I have not been to the theatre for what seems like years.

While the Mercury Theatre is nearly 50 years old, the foundations of the company began in the 1930s.

The Colchester Repertory Company was formed in 1937 by Robert Digby and Beatrice Radley and offered mainly weekly productions at the Albert Hall in the High Street.

(This is the CO OP bank building, take a closer look next time you go to town)

In 1963 David Forder became the Manager and the company’s professional reputation grew considerably and theatre began to play a more significant role in Colchester’s arts offering.

In 1968, the Colchester New Theatre Trust was formed to find a potential site for a new theatre and to oversee construction. The Mercury Theatre, designed by Norman Downie, opened on 10th May 1972, after a successful fund-raising campaign, supported by a large grant from the Borough Council.

Have a good day, hope to see you soon.

Julie
